About
Kim McGinnis is a criminal defence lawyer in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Kim completed her Juris Doctor at Robson Hall, University of Manitoba, and her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice at the University of Winnipeg. During law school, she worked with the University of Manitoba Community Law Centre and participated in the Legal Aid Manitoba summer program, where she gained hands-on experience helping people navigate the criminal justice system.

Kim articled with Rees Dyck Rogala Law Offices, where she continues to practise criminal defence. She assists clients with bail hearings, release plans, youth matters, sentencing, breaches, domestic allegations, property offences, assaults and other criminal charges.

Kim takes a practical and non-judgmental approach to her work. She understands that being charged with a criminal offence is about more than just a court date. It can impact a person’s housing, employment, family relationships, mental health, and connection to community. As an Indigenous lawyer, Kim’s work is also shaped by an understanding of how poverty, trauma, addiction, mental health, family instability, and disconnection from community can intersect with the criminal justice system.

While every client’s circumstances are different, Kim believes people deserve to be treated with dignity, listened to carefully, and given clear advice about their options.

Kim’s goal is to help clients understand the process, the conditions they are expected to follow, and the steps they can take moving forward.
Where appropriate, she also works to connect clients with programming, treatment options, and community-based supports.
Kim accepts clients with private retainers as well as Legal Aid certificates.
